I’m excited to introduce Panini Happy’s Great American Sandwich Guide – your online guide to more than 200 of the best sandwiches from sandwich shops, cafés and food trucks around the U.S. (plus a few from Canada)!
Whether you’re traveling to another city this summer or are staying close to home, chances are you’ll find a fabulous sandwich near you on this list to try – everything from the Porchetta Sandwich at Roli Roti in San Francisco’s Ferry Building to the East Hampton Hot Ham & Brie at Wallace Station in Versailles, Kentucky. THANK YOU so much for all of your recommendations! It’s taken me more than six months to sort through them as well as absorb input from family and friends, news and magazine articles, forums and other resources. My goal was to come up with a comprehensive – though not exhaustive – list of local favorite sandwiches across the country. Hopefully you’ll see a good mix of familiar favorites along with lesser known gems.
Of course, there are a great many fantastic sandwiches that don’t appear on this list. If your favorite isn’t listed, don’t despair – just nominate it in the comments of the appropriate state’s page in the guide.
iPhone and Android users: Mobile versions of this guide are available on Foodspotting for San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago!
What a great guide! I’m looking forward to discovering some new sandwiches right in my own area.
This is such a great idea, Kathy! There is nothing better than a really good sandwich. I would love to see my hometown of Vancouver on your list. It is a city packed with fantastic restaurants and many great sandwich offerings.
I absolutely love the food in Vancouver! Feel free to send over some of your favorite sandwiches when you have a chance.
Thank you so much for this fabulous post! I love it!
How cool! I’ll have to think about some nominations from Hawaii.
Please do!
We will have to reference this for our road trip!! Thanks!
WOW! How fun! Can’t wait to check it out for my area and beyond 🙂
Nice roll-up of sandwiches. Good job!
What a wonderful undertaking – you did great! Thanks for the ideas.
What a great idea. I bookmark immediately. 🙂
My gosh, what a list! I can see why it took so long to compile. Thanks for creating such a handy, useful guide, especially for summer travel. 😉
Thanks so much for this article! I love paninis and I’m glad to see that Louisiana made the list of some good ones. Wish I would have found this sooner since we were on vacation last week, but I’ll bookmark it bc I’m sure we’ll travel again soon 🙂
Wow – what a list!! I am hungry now for sure. I love Board & Brew, although the Del Mar one is better than the one in Bressi (why is that?!?). I’m definitely going to check out Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe. My family is in Sacramento and they LOVE the sandwiches at Nugget. See you Saturday!
It is definitely worth the trip down to Liberty Station to try that Turkey Cobb at Con Pane – I’ve declared it my favorite sandwich in SD! Looking forward to Sat. 🙂
Great list! I’ve been to both the places in MN. Good Day Cafe is right around the corner from my office. I am a fan of the Reuben there, and now I’m excited to try the Fried Egg Sandwch. As for Be’wiched – love it. Love the Pulled Pork too!
You need to add Bozeman, MT’s Great Harvest Bread Company’s Turkey sammich to the list!
Homemade wheat bread (from locally grown wheat!), turkey, bacon, sprouts, tomato, lettuce, curry spread…it’s SOOO good!
The P.20 Grilled Chicken Panini with fresh mozzarella, red roasted peppers and homemade basil pesto at “Panino Rustico” in Bensonhurst Brooklyn is the “Greatest of all Time”
I’m from Toronto, and when I checked out the Sandwich Guide for Toronto, I noticed that my favourite sandwich shop was missing: Banh Mi Boys (http://www.banhmiboys.com).
The flavours of their banhmi sandwiches are amazing – I’m working my way through their menu, but I can definitely recommend the grilled pork and the grilled chicken. I’m planning to try the duck confit next! The flavours just explode in your mouth. Take a look at their website menu (and press coverage); they have 2 locations at 395 Queen Street West, and 399 Yonge Street. I’m hoping that they open another location in the east end of Toronto – then I’d be in heaven!
